With my own wedding only a few months away, it seems all I see online these days are advertisements directed at all things wedding – including wedding insurance. I recently came across an article in USA Today addressing the increase in popularity of wedding insurance, also known as “special event insurance.”
Curious, and uninsured for the wedding at the moment, I did a little research and requested an online quote from the well-known insurer, Travelers. Surprisingly, the premiums for wedding insurance are quite affordable, especially in comparison with the average price of weddings these days. My quote was approximately $350. Not too costly in the grand scheme of things.
You might be asking, what exactly does wedding insurance cover? It purports to cover events such as lost deposits when the Big Day is cancelled or postponed, lost deposits when the vendor goes out of business or just fails to show up, extra expenses up to 25% incurred to avoid cancellation, damaged or defective film, damage to gifts, and damage to the Bride and Groom’s attire, to name a few.
With my wedding scheduled only days before the start of the 2014 Hurricane Season, I am thinking that wedding insurance might just be a great investment.
