Virginia’s Governor approved legislation that becomes effective on July 1, 2022, and sets standards for appraisals and umpires. The Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association (IAUA) sent me the following legislation:
The prior residency requirements were obviously unconstitutional. The impact summary of the legislation implies that the reason for the change was to make Virginia’s legislation constitutional.
The qualifications to be an appraiser and an umpire vary significantly from state to state. For example, a few states allow appraisers to have a contingency fee contract while the vast majority do not.
