Policyholders who have delayed and underpaid insurance claims from Hurricane Michael may think about taking a page from the “how to file a complaint” playbook from an Old Mutual policyholder who sent the dead body to the claims department to collect on a funeral insurance policy.

The Daily News reported:

It took a cold, hard corpse to get a life insurance company to hand over the cold, hard cash in South Africa.

In a desperate attempt to finally get their insurance payout, the family of Sifiso Mtshali, 46, hauled his corpse to an Old Mutual branch…

After weeks of stalling, this drastic method worked, and the family was paid the 30,000 South African Rand (about $2,000) they were owed.

The branch offices of insurers could be sent chunks of destroyed buildings and contents as a “proof of loss” to those delaying Hurricane Michael insurers.

On the other hand, those delaying and ignoring insurers could have their janitors throw the rubbish in the trash. So, filing a lawsuit which the insurer has to respond to and even pay their own attorney, a formal complaint with the Department of Financial Services, and a Notice of Civil Remedy Violation would be the best bet for getting a quick response from an American insurer.
