Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Westcott has gathered together a twenty member group to help her draft recommendations for a Homeowners’ Policy & Claims Bill of Rights. The group met for two days in Tallahassee to work face-to-face on topics impacting Florida’s homeowners. The Florida Channel captured the meetings.

A public conference call will happen Friday, August 2, 2013, at 10:30 am.

Conference Call-In Number: 850-413-1558
Conference ID: 62038

The discussion Friday will be focused on a review of the first list of take-aways and suggestions Ms. Westcott has drafted. This discussion started on Tuesday, but after an hour, it became apparent that more time was going to be necessary for the group to settle on language that is beneficial to Florida’s policyholders.

The research materials posted to the Consumer Advocates Website are available here.

If you can listen live tomorrow, the topics will likely include post-claim underwriting, assignments of benefits, examinations under oath, neutral evaluation, and the DFS mediation program. Public comments are taken at the close of each meeting.

Considering that many of the members of the panel work for, or represent, insurance companies, it is important that Floridians understand they can always contact their Insurance Consumer Advocate about any of the issues being addressed, Email Robin Westcott ICA@myfloridacfo.com.
