I get this question all the time in connection with my representation of policyholders. Clients often ask – What company has the best rates? What company has the fewest complaints? What company is the most financially secure?

Your first step in finding answers to these questions is to contact your insurance agent. Agents have a wealth of knowledge of experience that can assist policyholders in obtaining the best insurance company for a particular situation.

But what if you don’t have an agent or simply want to do a little independent research? While I do not believe that there is enough information in the public domain for policyholders to get all the information they need, there are some places you can go to get valuable information:

http://www.floir.com/choices.aspx – this site is searchable and has tons of info (but is not the easiest to navigate). For example, you can find rate comparisons here and company complaint information here. Spend some time playing with this site and you will find some very good information.

http://www.myfloridacfo.com/Division/Consumers/purchasingInsurance/default.htm#.VJhfSXnQ – this site has several links to help policyholders looking to purchase insurance.

http://www.demotech.com/fsr_search.aspx?cn=Company+Name&gp=0&nn=NAIC%23&rt=0&st=10&in=1 – this site has ratings and financial information of many of the property insurance companies in Florida.

http://apps.mypalmbeachpost.com/insuranceexplorer/#/ – in my opinion, this is the most policyholder friendly site of all. You can see financial ratings, complaint info, and number of policies.

If you use these four websites, you will be well informed about the stability, custormer service, and premium data of any company in Florida.
